Chapter 68: The Pen (ÓæÑÉ ÇáÞáã)

ÈöÓúãö Çááøóåö ÇáÑøóÍúãóäö ÇáÑøóÍöíãö
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

ä æóÇáúÞóáóãö æóãóÇ íóÓúØõÑõæäó

Nun. By the pen and what they inscribe,

[The Pen 68:1]

ãóÇ ÃóäúÊó ÈöäöÚúãóÉö ÑóÈøößó ÈöãóÌúäõæäò

You are not, [O Mu?ammad], by the favor of your Lord, a madman.

[The Pen 68:2]

æóÅöäøó áóßó áóÃóÌúÑðÇ ÛóíúÑó ãóãúäõæäò

And indeed, for you is a reward uninterrupted.

[The Pen 68:3]

æóÅöäøóßó áóÚóáì ÎõáõÞò ÚóÙöíãò

And indeed, you are of a great moral character.

[The Pen 68:4]

ÝóÓóÊõÈúÕöÑõ æóíõÈúÕöÑõæäó

So you will see and they will see

[The Pen 68:5]

ÈöÃóíøöíßõãú ÇáúãóÝúÊõæäõ

Which of you is the afflicted [by a devil].

[The Pen 68:6]

Åöäøó ÑóÈøóßó åõæó ÃóÚúáóãõ Èöãóäú Öóáøó Úóäú ÓóÈöíáöåö æóåõæó ÃóÚúáóãõ ÈöÇáúãõåúÊóÏöíäó

Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has gone astray from His way, and He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.

[The Pen 68:7]

ÝóáÇó ÊõØöÚú ÇáúãõßóÐøöÈöíäó

Then do not obey the deniers.

[The Pen 68:8]

æóÏøõæÇ áóæú ÊõÏúåöäõ ÝóíõÏúåöäõæäó

They wish that you would soften [in your position], so they would soften [toward you].

[The Pen 68:9]

æóáÇó ÊõØöÚú ßõáøó ÍóáÇøóÝò ãóåöíäò

And do not obey every worthless habitual swearer

[The Pen 68:10]

åóãøóÇÒò ãóÔøóÇÁò Èöäóãöíãò

[And] scorner, going about with malicious gossip -

[The Pen 68:11]

ãóäøóÇÚò áöáúÎóíúÑö ãõÚúÊóÏò ÃóËöíãò

A preventer of good, transgressing and sinful,

[The Pen 68:12]

ÚõÊõáøò ÈóÚúÏó Ðóáößó Òóäöíãò

Cruel, moreover, and an illegitimate pretender.

[The Pen 68:13]

Ãóäú ßóÇäó ÐóÇ ãóÇáò æóÈóäöíäó

Because he is a possessor of wealth and children,

[The Pen 68:14]

ÅöÐóÇ ÊõÊúáóì Úóáóíúåö ÂíóÇÊõäóÇ ÞóÇáó ÃóÓóÇØöíÑõ ÇáÃóæøóáöíäó

When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."

[The Pen 68:15]

ÓóäóÓöãõåõ Úóáóì ÇáúÎõÑúØõæãö

We will brand him upon the snout.

[The Pen 68:16]

ÅöäøóÇ ÈóáóæúäóÇåõãú ßóãóÇ ÈóáóæúäóÇ ÃóÕúÍóÇÈó ÇáúÌóäøóÉö ÅöÐú ÃóÞúÓóãõæÇ áóíóÕúÑöãõäøóåóÇ ãõÕúÈöÍöíäó

Indeed, We have tried them as We tried the companions of the garden, when they swore to cut its fruit in the [early] morning

[The Pen 68:17]

æóáÇó íóÓúÊóËúäõæäó

Without making exception.

[The Pen 68:18]

ÝóØóÇÝó ÚóáóíúåóÇ ØóÇÆöÝñ ãöäú ÑóÈøößó æóåõãú äóÇÆöãõæäó

So there came upon the garden an affliction from your Lord while they were asleep.

[The Pen 68:19]

ÝóÃóÕúÈóÍóÊú ßóÇáÕøóÑöíãö

And it became as though reaped.

[The Pen 68:20]

ÝóÊóäóÇÏóæÇ ãõÕúÈöÍöíäó

And they called one another at morning,

[The Pen 68:21]

Ãóäú ÇÛúÏõæÇ Úóáóì ÍóÑúËößõãú Åöäú ßõäÊõãú ÕóÇÑöãöíäó

[Saying], "Go early to your crop if you would cut the fruit."

[The Pen 68:22]

ÝóÇäØóáóÞõæÇ æóåõãú íóÊóÎóÇÝóÊõæäó

So they set out, while lowering their voices,

[The Pen 68:23]

Ãóäú áÇó íóÏúÎõáóäøóåóÇ Çáúíóæúãó Úóáóíúßõãú ãöÓúßöíäñ

[Saying], "There will surely not enter it today upon you [any] poor person."

[The Pen 68:24]

æóÛóÏóæúÇ Úóáóì ÍóÑúÏò ÞóÇÏöÑöíäó

And they went early in determination, [assuming themselves] able.

[The Pen 68:25]

ÝóáóãøóÇ ÑóÃóæúåóÇ ÞóÇáõæÇ ÅöäøóÇ áóÖóÇáøõæäó

But when they saw it, they said, "Indeed, we are lost;

[The Pen 68:26]

Èóáú äóÍúäõ ãóÍúÑõæãõæäó

Rather, we have been deprived."

[The Pen 68:27]

ÞóÇáó ÃóæúÓóØõåõãú Ãóáóãú ÃóÞõáú áóßõãú áóæúáÇó ÊõÓóÈøöÍõæäó

The most moderate of them said, "Did I not say to you, 'Why do you not exalt [ Allah ]?' "

[The Pen 68:28]

ÞóÇáõæÇ ÓõÈúÍóÇäó ÑóÈøöäóÇ ÅöäøóÇ ßõäøóÇ ÙóÇáöãöíäó

They said, "Exalted is our Lord! Indeed, we were wrongdoers."

[The Pen 68:29]

ÝóÃóÞúÈóáó ÈóÚúÖõåõãú Úóáóì ÈóÚúÖò íóÊóáÇóæóãõæäó

Then they approached one another, blaming each other.

[The Pen 68:30]

ÞóÇáõæÇ íóÇ æóíúáóäóÇ ÅöäøóÇ ßõäøóÇ ØóÇÛöíäó

They said, "O woe to us; indeed we were transgressors.

[The Pen 68:31]

ÚóÓóì ÑóÈøõäóÇ Ãóäú íõÈúÏöáóäóÇ ÎóíúÑðÇ ãöäúåóÇ ÅöäøóÇ Åöáóì ÑóÈøöäóÇ ÑóÇÛöÈõæäó

Perhaps our Lord will substitute for us [one] better than it. Indeed, we are toward our Lord desirous."

[The Pen 68:32]

ßóÐóáößó ÇáúÚóÐóÇÈõ æóáóÚóÐóÇÈõ ÇáÂÎöÑóÉö ÃóßúÈóÑõ áóæú ßóÇäõæÇ íóÚúáóãõæäó

Such is the punishment [of this world]. And the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew.

[The Pen 68:33]

Åöäøó áöáúãõÊøóÞöíäó ÚöäúÏó ÑóÈøöåöãú ÌóäøóÇÊö ÇáäøóÚöíãö

Indeed, for the righteous with their Lord are the Gardens of Pleasure.

[The Pen 68:34]

ÃóÝóäóÌúÚóáõ ÇáúãõÓúáöãöíäó ßóÇáúãõÌúÑöãöíäó

Then will We treat the Muslims like the criminals?

[The Pen 68:35]

ãóÇ áóßõãú ßóíúÝó ÊóÍúßõãõæäó

What is [the matter] with you? How do you judge?

[The Pen 68:36]

Ãóãú áóßõãú ßöÊóÇÈñ Ýöíåö ÊóÏúÑõÓõæäó

Or do you have a scripture in which you learn

[The Pen 68:37]

Åöäøó áóßõãú Ýöíåö áóãóÇ íóÊóÎóíøóÑõæäó

That indeed for you is whatever you choose?

[The Pen 68:38]

Ãóãú áóßõãú ÃóíúãóÇäñ ÚóáóíúäóÇ ÈóÇáöÛóÉñ Åöáóì íóæúãö ÇáúÞöíóÇãóÉö Åöäøó áóßõãú áóãóÇ ÊóÍúßõãõæäó

Or do you have oaths [binding] upon Us, extending until the Day of Resurrection, that indeed for you is whatever you judge?

[The Pen 68:39]

Óóáúåõã Ãóíøõåõãú ÈöÐóáößó ÒóÚöíãñ

Ask them which of them, for that [claim], is responsible.

[The Pen 68:40]

Ãóãú áóåõãú ÔõÑóßóÇÁõ ÝóáúíóÃúÊõæÇ ÈöÔõÑóßóÇÆöåöãú Åöäú ßóÇäõæÇ ÕóÇÏöÞöíäó

Or do they have partners? Then let them bring their partners, if they should be truthful.

[The Pen 68:41]

íóæúãó íõßúÔóÝõ Úóäú ÓóÇÞò æóíõÏúÚóæúäó Åöáóì ÇáÓøõÌõæÏö ÝóáÇó íóÓúÊóØöíÚõæäó

The Day the shin will be uncovered and they are invited to prostration but the disbelievers will not be able,

[The Pen 68:42]

ÎóÇÔöÚóÉð ÃóÈúÕóÇÑõåõãú ÊóÑúåóÞõåõãú ÐöáøóÉñ æóÞóÏú ßóÇäõæÇ íõÏúÚóæúäó Åöáóì ÇáÓøõÌõæÏö æóåõãú ÓóÇáöãõæäó

Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. And they used to be invited to prostration while they were sound.

[The Pen 68:43]

ÝóÐóÑúäöí æóãóäú íõßóÐøöÈõ ÈöåóÐóÇ ÇáúÍóÏöíËö ÓóäóÓúÊóÏúÑöÌõåõãú ãöäú ÍóíúËõ áÇó íóÚúáóãõæäó

So leave Me, [O Mu?ammad], with [the matter of] whoever denies the Qur'an. We will progressively lead them [to punishment] from where they do not know.

[The Pen 68:44]

æóÃõãúáöí áóåõãú Åöäøó ßóíúÏöí ãóÊöíäñ

And I will give them time. Indeed, My plan is firm.

[The Pen 68:45]

Ãóãú ÊóÓúÃóáõåõãú ÃóÌúÑðÇ Ýóåõãú ãöäú ãóÛúÑóãò ãõËúÞóáõæäó

Or do you ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down?

[The Pen 68:46]

Ãóãú ÚöäúÏóåõãú ÇáúÛóíúÈõ Ýóåõãú íóßúÊõÈõæäó

Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down?

[The Pen 68:47]

ÝóÇÕúÈöÑú áöÍõßúãö ÑóÈøößó æóáÇó Êóßõäú ßóÕóÇÍöÈö ÇáúÍõæÊö ÅöÐú äóÇÏóì æóåõæó ãóßúÙõæãñ

Then be patient for the decision of your Lord, [O Mu?ammad], and be not like the companion of the fish when he called out while he was distressed.

[The Pen 68:48]

áóæúáÇó Ãóäú ÊóÏóÇÑóßóåõ äöÚúãóÉñ ãöäú ÑóÈøöåö áóäõÈöÐó ÈöÇáúÚóÑóÇÁö æóåõæó ãóÐúãõæãñ

If not that a favor from his Lord overtook him, he would have been thrown onto the naked shore while he was censured.

[The Pen 68:49]

ÝóÇÌúÊóÈóÇåõ ÑóÈøõåõ ÝóÌóÚóáóåõ ãöäú ÇáÕøóÇáöÍöíäó

And his Lord chose him and made him of the righteous.

[The Pen 68:50]

æóÅöäú íóßóÇÏõ ÇáøóÐöíäó ßóÝóÑõæÇ áóíõÒúáöÞõæäóßó ÈöÃóÈúÕóÇÑöåöãú áóãøóÇ ÓóãöÚõæÇ ÇáÐøößúÑó æóíóÞõæáõæäó Åöäøóåõ áóãóÌúäõæäñ

And indeed, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes when they hear the message, and they say, "Indeed, he is mad."

[The Pen 68:51]

æóãóÇ åõæó ÅöáÇøó ÐößúÑñ áöáúÚóÇáóãöíäó

But it is not except a reminder to the worlds.
